About Us

A Sense of Play Co. has been a passion project long in the works. Birthed at the height of Covid quarantine, during long days as a working mom attempting effective virtual classes with her preschool students, while juggling two little ones each with their own virtual school days. The pandemic seemed to highlight and probably exacerbate issues both teachers and parents had already been seeing in our modern, fast-paced, technology and data driven times. For what seems like a million different reasons, the opportunities our little ones have for hands-on open-ended and meaningful sensory play, both at home and even at school, have become less. Yet all the benefits, like cognitive, physical, social, and emotional growth, are still absolutely necessary. Exposure to these types of active play experiences, are now a modern day upper hand for our little ones. Science shows how play is a simple yet powerful and essential component of childhood development. But sadly, time, resources, and energy don't always feel like they're on our side.

As a certified teacher for over fifteen years, with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education, having taught grades Pre-K through 2nd grade, but also as a mom, I have seen firsthand the positive impact sensory play can have on children. Little ones beginning school already having had quality creative play opportunities, have a stronger foundation for learning. When used in a classroom, this type of play helps even the playing field between children of different ages, varying abilities, range of interests, and even developmental differences. At home, it can do the same between siblings, family members, and friends. My hope is to make imaginative hands-on play and learning experiences fun and easy, for kids and their grown-ups.

Our Core Values

  1. We believe in our children, the pureness through which our little ones view the world around them, and the importance of preserving and nurturing their spirits.
  2. We believe in the power and value of parental support, family interaction, and connection between children and their grown-ups.
  3. We believe in giving back, not only in the sharing of our blessings, but also in teaching our children through our actions.
  4. We believe in the love of learning and the importance of imaginative, hands-on, multisensory play!

We feel our play kits are so beneficial. They make open-ended play easy for parents, provide support for as much or as little directed adult involvement that each play situation allows for, offer quality academic support materials, and create fun, imaginative, play opportunities. Plus all our base materials are handmade with nontoxic ingredients, and none of our kits require batteries!
